Some are like water

The title, 'Some are like water', is taken from the lyrics of the song 'forever young' by Alphaville. It is a metaphor for two 'timeless' composers who are still great examples for many composers today: Olivier Messiaen and Igor Stravinsky. In this work you can hear cell technique (à la Stravinsky) and a specific kind of handling of timbre (à la Messiaen), within Gerds' own writing style. In the middle movement, a very small quotation from the song of Alphaville is audible.
