The brass band was founded on October 13, 1922 in the building of Aere Perennius on the Kleinzand in Sneek. The band has been working together with Excelsior Scharnegoutum since 2021. The two bands form a Fanfare with 50 members led by conductor Arend Gerds from Grootegast.
Gerds is also the composer who, in honor of the 100th anniversary, wrote a special composition for the centennial: Rewenich. The work, inspired by the heroic life of the Sneker knight Rienck Bockema, will have its premiere this evening. Rienck Bockema participated in the crusades to Rhodes, Lithuania and Jerusalem. He was knighted by King Edward of England and came to his senses after his fighting life. The pious knight founded the monastery of Thabor in Sneek around 1400. Rewenich is a beautiful musical tale back to the time of primitive battlefields, eastern places and God-fearing contemplation.
With Elske DeWall, the band will make it a fantastic varied evening of celebration with appealing songs. With a light and at times nostalgic visual show, the enthusiastic musicians will take visitors on their corona-delayed concert evening, which they have been looking forward to for so long. Before and after the concert, one-man orchestra Folkert-Hans Tolsma will provide atmosphere in the foyer.
